Recently the delegation of the State of Qatar headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ahmed Nasser Al Thani visited the Republic of Kalmykia.

According to the press service of Roscongress, the visit took place within the framework of a study tour aimed at exploring the natural and tourist potential of the region and strengthening international cooperation in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The visit was the result of active work of the Qatari delegation at the Caucasus Investment Forum on May 25-27, where issues of development of Russian-Qatari trade, economic and investment projects were discussed.

During the visit, a meeting was held between Ambassador of the State of Qatar Ahmed Nasser Al Thani and the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov.

“Qatar rightfully occupies a special place among Russia’s strategic partners. Our relations are based on a long history of friendship, interaction and implementation of joint projects. For us, this visit is not only a sign of attention from our partners, but also a symbol of strengthening international cooperation between our states.

Kalmykia has unique natural resources, rich cultural heritage and aspiration for open international dialog.

The development of ties with one of the leading countries of the Persian Gulf opens new horizons not only in the sphere of investment and tourism, but also in the humanitarian plane – through the strengthening of cultural dialog and mutual respect.

The visit of the Ambassador of Qatar is an opportunity to familiarize our friends with the potential of the region and make a significant contribution to strengthening our relations,” emphasized the Head of the Republic Batu Khasikov. The excursion program for the distinguished guests included a visit to the national parks of Kalmykia, acquaintance with the unique ecosystems of the region: the Black Lands Reserve, singing barchans and the shore of the Pink Lake, as well as with the fauna of the region – saigas, horses and camels. The program plan allowed the participants to fully touch and feel the beauty of Kalmykia: the guests had the opportunity not just to see the region, but also to feel its atmosphere and get acquainted with the traditions and customs that make Kalmykia truly special.

“We express our sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and friendliness of the people of Kalmykia. Today’s meeting reflects bilateral efforts to strengthen friendly and good-neighborly relations between the countries. Close and trusting relations between the leaders of our countries serve as a reliable basis for the implementation of joint projects in the field of ecology, sustainable development and exchange of tourist flows,” said Ambassador of the State of Qatar Ahmed Nasser Al Thani.

It is important to note that the State of Qatar has been participating in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) since 2021, when it assumed the status of a guest country. This status offers great opportunities for deepening economic, cultural and tourism cooperation between the two states.

In 2025, a representative Qatari delegation will also take part in SPIEF, which will be held from June 18 to 21. In addition, a Russia-Qatar business forum was held in Moscow in April, organized with the support of the Roscongress Foundation and government agencies of both countries. The event became an important platform for discussing promising areas of cooperation and strengthening business ties between the two countries.

The visit of the delegation of the State of Qatar to Kalmykia is an example of an effective practice of familiarization with Russian regions, which helps to reveal their unique natural and tourist potential.

Such familiarization tours create a basis for the promotion of Russian tourism programs in the world market, allow to attract investments in the infrastructure of the regions and contribute to the recognition of Russian culture.

Such initiatives aimed at promoting regions and expanding tourism opportunities are reflected and supported at major professional platforms organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

One of them is the International Tourism Forum “Let’s Travel!”, which will be held from June 10 to 15, 2025 at VDNKh in Moscow.

The “Let’s Travel!” forum brings together experts, representatives of regions and international partners, providing a unique opportunity to present new routes, exchange experience and build effective cooperation for the development of domestic and international tourism.
