Tourist flow from Russia to Abkhazia will increase

Moscow The President of the Abkhaz Union of Tourism Anna Kalyagina told NSN that the average annual increase in tourists is 6-7%, but this year the figures may improve.

Abkhazia expects the tourist flow from Russia to increase by 20% in the summer of 2025, but so far only 60% of the room stock has been booked, the President of the Abkhaz Union of Tourism Anna Kalyagina told NSN.

Direct flights to Abkhazia will appear from another region. Thus, the airline “RusLine” will open a flight program to Sukhum from Saratov from June 28. Flights will be carried out twice a week, on Mondays and Saturdays, until October 25. President Anna Kalyagina noted that the season in the region has not yet begun in full force.

“We must take into account that the weather is not very good here yet, the season has not yet begun in full force. Therefore, so far about 60% of the rooms have been booked for the summer period. In July-August, we will reach 100% booking. This was the case last year and the year before. Our busiest months are July, August and even September. By this time, it gets hotter, the sea warms up. Every year, our average increase in tourists is 6-7%. The market capacity is increasing, the number of rooms is growing, so we expect that this year there will be an increase of 15-20%,” she said.

At the same time, President of the Abkhaz Union of Tourism Anna Kalyagina emphasized that high prices for air tickets to Sochi can scare off tourists. Many of them get to the region by the usual route, despite the opening of the airport in Sukhum.

“Prices for air tickets have a very strong impact on the tourist flow. For example, tickets to Sochi are very expensive now. The main flow of tourists still flies to Sochi, although we are already taking on some of them ourselves. It is too early to talk about the results of the opening of the airport in Sukhum, we will evaluate them at the end of the season. Some of the tourists who flew to Sochi will now fly to Sukhum. But we cannot yet say whether the total number of tourists will increase during the season,” the NSN interlocutor concluded.

Direct regular flights between Russia and Abkhazia resumed on May 1 after a 30-year break. The first flight on the Moscow-Sukhum route was operated by the airline “UVT Aero”, the Telegram channel “Radiotochka NSN” reports.
